CONNECTING MALAYSIANS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA
Welcome to the Association of Malaysians in Western Australia Inc (AMWA)! Established in 2005, AMWA is the heart of the Malaysian community in Western Australia, fostering connections, cultural exchange, and support for Malaysians in this beautiful land.
AMWA is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit organisation that has always had a strong focus on promoting acceptance of all people in Australia by actively seeking to be a valued and responsible member of the WA community. With over 500 members, AMWA has built a strong reputation for community engagement and cultural connection. Purely volunteer run, it is managed by a yearly elected Management Committee.
AMWA is nothing without the support of its members and AMWA is always looking for volunteers and ideas to support its mission.

Our Legacy
Formation and Early Vision of AMWA (2005)
The Association was established in 2005 following an initiative led by the late CG Jazri, who had received direction from Putrajaya encouraging the formation of an apolitical Malaysian association. He approached Terry to assist in bringing this vision to life.
AMWA was subsequently inaugurated in 2005, with early meetings held at the Consulate office in Perth.
A key milestone in the Association’s early years was the hosting of Malaysia’s 50th Merdeka (Independence Day) celebration in 2007 at the Perth Convention Centre. The event attracted approximately 1,000 attendees and featured live performances by Malaysian musicians, along with a 10-course Malaysian banquet. The celebration also received strong support from various consulates.
During this period, AMWA initiated several community and cultural activities, including the Merdeka Golf Day and the Agung Cup. The trophies from these events remain on display at the Consulate-General of Malaysia office.
In addition, the Association established a building fund with the aim of developing a Malaysia Hall. This vision has since been realised by the Malaysian Government through the acquisition of an existing hostel.
These early efforts reflect the founding vision of AMWA—to foster community, celebrate Malaysian culture, and create a lasting presence for Malaysians in Western Australia.
